Gary Craven's New Pond
A few facts; 25' x 7 1/2', 44 to 48" deep, 45 mil EPDM liner, approx. 3400 gal.,
used the spoil from pond to cover raised sidewalls, inside lined with masonite form
filled with expanding foam, padded with carpet scraps and liner pieces. Transit used to level
at the start. Homemade filter
with PVC blowdown grid system, have 1 1/4" drain valve for sediment removal (great for
watering perennial beds), 2- 1 1/2" PVC inlet tubes from pump in opposite corners with
1/4" holes in top position. Grates on top of tubes covered with vinyl mesh to support
lava rock media ( filled to within 4" of top). Bio media floats on top (I use Water
Hyacinth). Filter and pond seeded with nitrifying bacteria to jump start.
