Since the Garden and Home show in DSM was hard to attend because of the weather, I am enclosing a few pictures of the Country Landscape exhibit. The waterfall was very impressive. Darin Froelich (the former student who took the pictures) explained that one of the rock stacks supporting the waterfall had been drilled to run a plastic tube for recirculation of the water. The tube was then branched into 2 or 4 (not sure which) elbows that were pointed downward into a basin that had been hollowed out of the waterfall stone to spread the water out over the stone itself. The waterfall stone was also chipped out to allow the water to flow over the edge as a smooth even waterfall. The final chipping was done while the water was running to achieve a smooth sheet of water.

Mon, 31 Dec 2001. Thought you might be interested in this picture I took at Christmas. Three yellow-shafted flickers gathered around a hole in the ice of my pond and enjoying a drink. The hole was created by having the bubbler running to keep the fish alive. Happy Holidays.
Fri, 1 Mar 2002. I hate to keep sending pictures of my pond, but the birds just keep coming. Today it started snowing and we had at least a dozen robins, ten starlings, nine French hens (whoops wrong story) and two cardinals. All wanting their turn at the trough.
