Fall is definitely in the air and they are predicting scattered frost in Northern Iowa tonight. Brrrrrrr!! With this kind of weather we all are thinking of winterizing our ponds. In only a few short weeks our ponds will start to freeze and we must be ready in order to insure the survival of our plants and fish. That is what this month's program is all about.

I have talked with Gary Craven and he and I are going to be doing a program on "Winterizing Our Ponds, Plants and Fish". I have a couple of very good handouts on the subject and I have added a lot of information in the last couple of years. With Gary's knowledge and experience I believe we can put on a fantastic program that should answer any questions that you may have on winterizing. Of course, we are looking to add your experiences to our program so do not be shy and contribute your knowledge, if you want.

So, the program will start at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 10 in the Hughes Auditorium at Reiman Gardens. We will have a Director's meeting right before the regular meeting starting at 6:30PM. Invite friends if you want. It should be a good program for potential new members.

Gary Craven is donating a preformed (rigid) pond for auctioning off right after our meeting. It should be a good starter pond for someone and you may recall my auctioning abilities -- this pond could go cheap. I will try to bone up on auctioning before the meeting. Anyway, the pond has an irregular shape (like a dogbone) with two shelves on opposite ends. It is 5 foot long, 3.5 foot wide, and 22 inches deep. It will probably hold in the neighborhood of 200 to 300 gallons.

If you have something to donate like this, bring it to the meeting and we can auction that off also.

This will be the last meeting of the year. We have had meetings in Nov and Dec of previous years but because of the holidays our turnouts have been real low. I would like to, however, have a Christmas party in Dec. for our members. Stay tuned for when, where and just how we are going to party.

Hope to see everybody at the meeting.
