Capital City Chapter

A big thank you to Steve and Marg Drahaus for hosting the September meeting at their home.

Much different from the previous day, there was a chill in the air but warmed by the atmosphere and a bit of hot spiced cider. Their yard was very inviting not only to the group but to many critters that call it home, especially their pet turtle Fred.

We are in the process of planning our upcoming year. If anyone has a topic they would like to have presented please send your suggestions to Doug Reick Drgardener@aol.com or myself Robinwineland@msn.com. We are also looking for interested people to volunteer for the office of president and secretary. If anyone is interested you may also contact Doug or myself. Doug has done a marvelous job being president but would like to open the opportunity up to others. I am enjoying being secretary and am willing to continue unless someone else is interested.

Our dates for the coming year will be: January 25; February 22; March 22; April 26. Remember we don't meet in November or December because of the busy holiday season. Our meetings will be held at the ISU extension office on NE 14th street North of Interstate 80 at 6:30.

This month’s meeting is moving to Thursday October 27th and it will be held at 6:30 at the ISU extension office. We are hoping to invite Owen Tweet from Water Landscape supply to join us, we were sorry he missed our September meeting. If we get more details watch for e-mails.

Top of Iowa

The Top of Iowa Water Garden Association will meet Monday, October 17 at the Lakeside room in the band shell at city park in Clear Lake. We will be presenting a check to Central Gardens of North Iowa as part of the proceeds from the water garden tour this summer. There will be someone from Central Gardens giving a presentation and update of the progress of Central Gardens and also the projections for the future of Central Gardens. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. This will be the last meeting of 2005 as we will not be meeting during November and December. Hope to see you there.

What is a Chapter?

Our membership range has expanded such that we have two chapters in Iowa. In addition to the parent organization of CIWGA in Story County (Ames, Nevada, Story City, Boone areas), members also may choose to be part of a local chapter. We currently have the Capital City Chapter (Des Moines, Indianola, Ankeny, Altoona areas) and the Top of Iowa Chapter (Mason City, Clear Lake areas). These chapters have their own directors and meetings.

A portion of your dues to CIWGA is shared with your local chapter if you choose one on the membership form. This provides the chapter with the financial means to support their monthly programs or other costs associated with their meetings.

Everyone is a member of the Story County organization (CIWGA). Any member of any chapter may attend any or all monthly meetings whether they have designated to be a member in one of the chapters or not. Chapter designations are on your membership cards.
