We had a wonderful setting for our July meeting. Bob Shaw graciously welcomed us to his secret garden! His backyard is surrounded with a wrought iron fence that contains his extensive water garden, streams and falls, creating a peaceful nurturing environment. He shared his beautiful back yard paradise along with the history of its creation. Even though the weather had turned a bit nippy, we had an awesome turnout and magnificent pastries, a big thank you to the ones that brought them!
Our next meeting we are tentatively planning for August 24th. We are going to try and switch our meeting day to the 4th Wednesday of each month. There's been an interest expressed in the last few meetings of the possibilities of moving it to Wednesday night at 7pm, so we thought we would give it a try. I hope this doesn't create a problem, but if so I would like to know. Since I have not yet confirmed the next location, you will have to check back with the website with the exact place, and I will send an e-mail reminder to those on my mailing list.
Robin Wineland, Secretary, Capitol City Chapter of the CIWGA
The Top of Iowa Water Garden Association will meet Monday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Don and Glennis Lee's .
Their address is 2509 4th Street S.E. (Just east of Krieger's Greenhouse) Everyone is suppose to bring their favorite garden tool and tell about it. We will also discuss the pond tour. See you there!
Our membership range has expanded such that we have two chapters in Iowa. In addition to the parent organization of CIWGA in Story County (Ames, Nevada, Story City, Boone areas), members also may choose to be part of a local chapter. We currently have the Capital City Chapter (Des Moines, Indianola, Ankeny, Altoona areas) and the Top of Iowa Chapter (Mason City, Clear Lake areas). These chapters have their own directors and meetings.
A portion of your dues to CIWGA is shared with your local chapter if you choose one on the membership form. This provides the chapter with the financial means to support their monthly programs or other costs associated with their meetings.
Everyone is a member of the Story County organization (CIWGA). Any member of any chapter may attend any or all monthly meetings whether they have designated to be a member in one of the chapters or not. Chapter designations are on your membership cards.
