Isn't summer fun? Especially for us water gardeners. When it is hot, hot, hot our water plants love it. I really complain a lot when it is hot but then I think how great the water plants are doing. That tempers my distain for the hot temps.
Our June meeting sure was a short but GOOD one. Carol and Steve Scheid's water gardens are simply fun to sit by and take in the sounds and sights. Their retreat in their swing under the shade tree is something that anybody would give a lot for. My problem, even if I had that kind of retreat, would I use it because there is not enough time? I really need to take time to relax.
The food was excellent, the price was great (free) and we got to see and sit by a great garden. I really love these summer mini tours. Well, we have another mini tour lined up for July and August. On July 11 at 6:30 PM we will be touring Jim Jordan's garden on the outskirts of Boone first then travel to Gary Craven's more in the center of Boone. Gary will be giving a short presentation in his garage of how to construct a water garden. Our timing should be good enough that it will be dark enough to see his slides.
To get to Jim Jordan's travel west on Highway 30 until you get to Snedden Drive (which is Airport Rd to most Boonites). Turn north and then take an immediate left (west) on 5 Mile Drive. Jim and Pat's place is the first place you come to. Their address is 2228 5 mile drive. We will spend maybe an hour there then travel to Gary and Janet Craven's. Their address is 1409 13th St in Boone. Go back to Snedden Dr and travel to Lincoln Way (Old Hwy 30). Go west until you get to Linn St. Turn right or north - travel to 13th St, turn right or east and travel 2 blocks to Gary's place.
As most of you know Jim Jordan is our recording Secretary and does a very good job of it. Gary Craven was our Vice President for a short period. Gary was also the person that arranged for us to use the Alliant facility. Both top-notch people who are very giving of their time. I might also mention that both gardens are a couple of the best. I know you will like them.
This meeting will be an enjoyable one and one that I personally am looking forward to. Hope to see everybody there.
