June 12 - Ponds and Posies Tour, Toledo, Iowa, 1:00 - 5:00 pm, $5.00 per person. Ten gardens are featured on the tour. Proceeds to go to the new Toledo library.


Relax and enjoy your afternoon with us. The rain date will be June 26. Refreshments are being served at the newly remodeled and expanded Toledo Library located at 206 E. High Street.

June 18 - Polk County Master Gardeners 2005 Garden Tour, 9-4. Tickets available at Metro area Earl Mays, The Woodsmith Store, Goode Greenhouse, Holubs, Herndon's Seed and Nursery or call ISU Extension at 515-261-2400.


June 25 - Hannah Alderman Questers annual garden walk, Nevada, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Four gardens will be featured and a garden party and plant sale will be hosted by the Mary Nevada Questers at the home of Barb Kenny.


Visitors will go home with many garden ideas after visiting Barb Kenny's Hosta nursery, Phyllis Smith's garden of whimsy, Mark and Ilene Hoffman's greenhouse, or as they follow Jan Krausmans garden path through the arbor and around her many shrubs and perennials. Tickets can be purchased at any of these locations Phyllis Smiths home at 214 S. 11th Street, Jan Krausmans garden at 168 S. 11th Street, Barb Kenney's garden at 16545 650th Avenue or Hoffman's located at 1222 S. K Avenue. The cost of a ticket is $5 with an additional charge for the garden party.

July 10 - Eastern Iowa Pond Society Tour, Cedar Rapids, 11:00-5:00, admission $5.00 per person, 18 yr olds and under free.


As in the past, ponds on this tour are predominantly owned and maintained by the hobbyist/homeowners who will be on hand to discuss construction, maintenance and mistakes made. Bring your questions and your cameras. This can be the informative event that may inspire you to add a water element in your yard.


Come smell the flowers, hear the waters, see the fish and enjoy a beautiful day touring a large variety of ponds in the Cedar Rapids area. Koi ponds, goldfish ponds, heavily planted ponds, fountains and waterfalls; water elements of all sizes will all be featured.


July 16 and 17 - 10th Annual Central Iowa Tour of Water Gardens, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. Saturday showcases 12 gardens in the Ames and Nevada areas. Sunday features 12 gardens in the Des Moines, Johnston, and Ankeny areas.


Admission tickets/maps are $10 for each day. Tickets/maps can be purchased for just one day or both days. As an added attraction, there will be several gardens on Saturday open at night so that you can appreciate the garden's night lighting.


Garden styles will range from the extravagant to the small backyard type. Variety is the name of the game! This is an ideal opportunity to study different landscape ideas and garden designs.

July 30 - Top of Iowa Water Garden Tour, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.


There will be 11 gardens on the tour in the Garner area. There will be 8 gardens in Garner and 3 in the country. A portion of the proceeds will go to Central Gardens in Clear Lake. More information can be obtained in calling Ed Schroeder at 641-923-3512.
