The DM group met on Tuesday, August 26, at the home of Sharon and John McDonald near Norwalk. It was a hot and sticky night but the 13 members and guests present had a great time looking at the McDonald's elaborate pond and waterfall system and hearing their pond "story." Thanks, John, for the cool bottles of water and your hospitality.
Our next meeting will be on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, at 7:00 PM at the home of Ed and Mary Furry at 804 SE Kensington, Ankeny. Please note this is not the regular meeting night. Jamie Beyer will be presenting a program for us on winterizing our ponds. (It can't be that time already??!!) Jamie talked to our group last year on this topic and it was very informative, fun, and we all learned a lot. We hope to have a good turn-out for this meeting as it will be very timely information for all pond- owners. If you need to call Ed or Mary for any reason, their number is 964-7067.
Directions to their pond (and home) are: from interstate 35 going north, take the first Ankeny exit which is Oralabor Rd. Turn west, go across the bridge and then turn right on Delaware. Drive along Delaware past Target and you will soon come to Kensington where you should turn left and go to 804.
Our October and November meetings will be at the ISU Extension office on the 4th Tuesdays and the programs are yet to be determined. If you have an idea for a speaker, please email Doug Rieck at Polk@ciwga.org. We hope to have election of new officers in November too. If you would like to help in any way, also let Doug know. We need you!
The Top of Iowa Water Garden Association will meet Monday, September 15th at 7:00 at the home of Martin and Marilyn Monahan at 207 19th St. S.E. in Mason City. We will tour their water garden and then go to the Cerro Gordo County Extension Office at 2023 South Federal Ave. in Mason City (only a couple of blocks from the Monahans) for our meeting and program.
We are very honored to have Jamie Beyer from Ames who is the President of the Central Iowa Water Garden Association come and do our program. He will be talking about over wintering your pond and answer any other questions that you may have concerning water gardening. If you have any questions about the meeting call Ed Schroeder at 641-923-3512.
