Howdy. I hope that everybody's pond is clear, lilies blooming and your fish are healthy. I have been hearing about a lot of ponds with green water this year. Could be all the rain but in any case it is imperative, if you have green water, to increase circulation. In a lot of cases this will clear your pond up. Making sure that you have a low organic load (leaves, dead critters, excess fish food, etc.), good circulation and plants will insure clear water. The most important part of this advice is the circulation. It is rare to see a pond with great circulation with green water. So how much is enough -- minimum of one pond volume/hour is a good starting point. More, if you can afford it. We have had several meetings about this subject and our next meeting will address this subject again. However, the meeting is primarily a tour of Pete and Elaine Tekippe's garden but we will be discussing this subject again.

I do want to mention that to those of you that have missed our meetings lately -- you have missed some very good ones. Lots of info and lots of fun. I missed the last one due to work. I have heard that I missed a very good one -- thank you Ryan Walrod for doing the program and Gary Craven for conducting the meeting!!

Okay for our next meeting. You have already read that we are touring the Tekippe's garden. When talking to Pete on the phone about having their garden on the water garden tour, I was intrigued by all the very interesting aspects of his water garden. I knew that our group has to see this one -- a tour just for us. So, please come and enjoy the Tekippe's garden and listen to a discussion of green water. The following is the Tekippe's garden description for the water garden tour.

The front yard has a recently landscaped mound with over 200 ornamental grass plants. The back yard contains the pond, stream, and waterfall. There is a walkway from the house deck with a footbridge going across the pond and to the gazebo. From there, the path goes down a 65-step stairway to a ravine and a long boardwalk and mulched trail, to a treehouse and the river. Includes night lighting.

The meeting will start at 7:00 PM at the Tekippe's garden, 12939 Royal Orchard, Story City. Directions: take Exit 123 (the Roland, E18 exit) off I35. Go 1/4 mile west of the Interstate. Turn into the Royal Orchard subdivision (North side of E18). Their place is the 2nd house in, grey house with white trim.

See ya at Tekippe's
