Polk County

Things are taking shape in Polk County. Our meeting this month was a demonstartion of plant division by Ames member Kenn Outzen with additional advice from Polk County member Larry Arnold. It was a timely topic and well received. Thanks to Kenn for bringing his plants and demonstrating the proper techniques. And thanks to Larry for his advice and providing all the door prizes.

The tour committee reported on a full slate of activities for this summer and rest of the year. Our next meeting will be a presentation on planting around the pond. Kenn Outzen will be with us again to give his vast experience in plants and plant design. The meeting will be held on May 22 in Ankeny. See below for directions.

We also formed an Executive Board to develop a more formal structure. Thanks to Jennifer Lundy, Carol Culmer and Carol Kirkbride for volunteering to work with me on the future of our chapter. We plan to meet several times this summer.

This summer's tour is taking shape. The Polk County segment will include stops in Ankeny, NE Des Moines and Altoona. We have a great committee represented by members from both Story and Polk counties. Be sure to volunteer when called.

There was also interest in the plant exchange in May. I think you will see a good contingent from Polk County on May 13.

That's all for now. Doug

Top of Iowa

The "Top of Iowa Water Garden Association" met at the home of Mary & Stan Schultz on April 15th. We called the meeting to order at approximately 7:00pm after looking Mary's water garden over and discussing the common problems that our ponds had like hers. We officially named the club, "Top of Iowa Water Garden Association." We discussed how many meetings we would like to have and possibilities of locations. We discussed programs and ideas and their necessity for good attendance. Ed Schroeder passed out copies of Central Iowa Water Garden Association By-Laws for members to look over. Sue Marti brought and passed out several newsletters from the Minnesota Water Garden Society. Next meeting is set for May 20th at 7:00pm at Lakeview Room at City Park located in Clear Lake. Lakeview room is attached to the bandshell in the park. The program will be on "Raising Fish" by Robert Swarner.

That's all for now, Ed
