This month, there are a lot of happenings within your Association. Some of the Bethany Manor volunteers are working on the site as I write this. They are taking advantage of things already being thawed and on a relatively nice warm Saturday. I first need to mention that Bethany Manor is an Assisted Living facility in Story City and donations as well as volunteer labor are a big part of how Bethany is able to provide the quality of care that they do. Our Association has volunteered to upgrade their water garden this spring.
Kenn Outzen, Dean Koob, Mike Stewart, Larry and Denice Reisetter have been very busy meeting with the Bethany Manor officials to come up with a PLAN. Last night I had an opportunity to review it and, let me just say, this will be a showcase garden! One that will be used as an example of how to install a water garden the least expensive and most maintenance free, way. For those of you that are considering installing a water garden yourself, than this is your opportunity to learn by example. Bring your notebook or better yet, bring your leather gloves, shovel and maybe a wheelbarrow and learn by doing.
Larry is organizing the volunteers and he and volunteers are planning on working most evenings after 5 PM. He has planned another all day work day for those that can help out on a weekend. The day is Sat. April 6 and will start at 8:00 AM. Show up at Bethany (212 Lafayette Ave.) and may want to bring your camera. If you need more info. contact Larry Reisetter (ph. 515/733-2594) and he will fill you in on the happenings.
Something I mentioned at the last meeting. We are going to be expanding the Pondment section to include question and answers. So if you have any kind of question on ponding please contact me by email or by letter with your question. If I can't answer it, I will find out the answer and mail it back to you. We will then print it in our newsletter, if that is okay with you.
Our meeting this month (Monday, April 8) will be given by me on Veggie Filtration and I am going to be introducing my Grid Filter that I have a patent applied for. It is a veggie filter that will replace biological filters for most ponderers and the beauty of it is the low maintenance of it. I have taken years to come up with the design and am very excited about the potential. It is the primary filter on my 10,000-gallon Koi/goldfish pond system. Believe me, it works. You can make it yourself or, if you desire, you may purchase one of the few that I have ready to go this spring. I need to test market the filter and this is the group I have chosen to offer it to. Like I said, you can make it yourself, but you can't sell it or anything that uses the basic principles. That is my only care.
Hope everybody shows up for this meeting. It will start at 7:00 PM at the Ames Public Library in the Farwell Brown Auditorium. Map is on the back of this newsletter.
