Polk County

On January 29 the Polk County chapter met at the ISU Extension Office in Des Moines. It was an icy night that kept the attendance low, but those that braved the weather heard an interesting discussion on fish diseases from Larry Arnold, owner of Aqua Land Pets. Larry described and diagramed the most common diseases and told us how to treat them. Good information for everyone with fish in their water feature.

In addition to Larry's presentation we all shared our own experiences. As usual there were a variety of stories. Everything from someone thinking about digging the hole to others that have been at it for many years. I think these stories are the most interesting part of belonging to the CIWGA.

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 7:00PM, at the ISU Extension office. The presentation promises to be a good one. Jackie Allsup and Chris Wendell from the Eastern Iowa Pond Society will speak on "Homemade Gadgets for the Pond". Jackie and Chris are experts on water features and were instrumental in forming the Eastern Iowa organization. Remember, all CIWGA members are welcome to attend.

Cerro Gordo County

The Cerro Gordo County meeting is scheduled for March 7 at 7:00 PM. Jamie Beyer will be presenting on the "Ecology and Balance of a Water Garden -- Maintaining the Patina of Life." Jamie is confident that once a ponderer understands the principles that will be gone over, the ponderer graduates into "Ponddom" -- that utopia of crystal clear water and healthy fish!!

It will be held at Stan and Mary Schultz home (big house) at 1881 12th St., Mason City, IA. (To get there take Hwy 18 through Mason City to the East side -- when you get to the High School turn North at the stop light -- go to 12th St. - turn east or right -- the Schultz home is on the south side)

All members of the CIWGA are welcome to attend. Bring your friends and whoever you want. It will be a fun time.
