Many thanks to the Hansens for hosting the August meeting - beautiful ponds, fish, gardens, etc.; also to Hansens and D. Wilson for the wonderful treats. Speaking of providing treats, please sign the "treat sheet" at the Sept. Meeting. Your contributions will be gratefully accepted! Minutes of the July meeting were approved. We now have 170+ members ("quite a few families and quite a few singles," reported the membership chair). PLEASE check your e-mail address with the membership chair and remember to get your MEMBERSHIP CARD!!

The 2001 Ames and Des Moines area tours were quite successful and did much to promote CIWGA. A CIWGA information and membership brochure is in the works and will be available at various area events. Volunteers will be needed as CIWGA forms a few more committees - please consider serving. If you have committee suggestions, please contact Jamie B.

Eastern Iowa Pond Society will be hosting Greg Speichert at their Sept. 13 meeting, Indian Creek Nature Center, Cedar Rapids. This will be a great program!!! Contact Jamie B. if you would like to carpool to CR. CIWGA September and October meetings: 1) Charlie Drewes, ISU invertebrate zoologist, "small critters in the pond" - "hands on with scopes!! And 2) winterizing ponds (yes - it's coming!!). Lizzy Award goes to Greg, our prestigious membership chair, for the "3 second ride." By the way, Lizzy did travel to Wisconsin in July (photos to prove it). Farther than I got this summer...

Next meeting: Monday, Sept. 10.

Editor's note: The program for the August meeting featured our very own Queen of Koi, Karen Stewart. Her educational program gave us insight into the history of Koi as well as the care and feeding of these curious creatures. Thank you Karen for an excellent and entertaining presentation!
