You may have heard about an exciting new water garden organization that has formed in central Iowa. The new organization is called the Central Iowa Water Garden Association and draws its members from the Ames/Des Moines area. The initial membership (more than 80) have already gained knowledge and made many new friends.
In an effort to encourage membership in the Des Moines area we will be holding a meeting at the ISU Polk County Extension Office on April 2, at 7:00PM. There will be a very brief meeting to inform those in attendance of the association, followed by a presentation from Jamie Beyer on Controlling Algae and Maintaining Clear Water. There will be no pressure to join and there is no charge for attending the meeting. We simply want to bring education and information to anyone who enjoys water gardens, whether they have a water garden or not. Another good source of information is our web site WWW.GEOCITIES.COM/CIWGA.
In addition, we plan to expand the Story County Master Gardener's annual water garden tour to two days this year. Saturday, July 14 will be the regular tour in the Ames area and Sunday, July 15 we will add a tour of water gardens in the Des Moines area. This promises to be an exciting weekend here in central Iowa for all water garden enthusiasts.
You have received this announcement as the result of a list of pond enthusiasts Jamie has gathered over the years. We hope to see you on April 2. Please tell others that have an interest in water gardening about the meeting and bring them along.
