Central IA. Water Garden Assoc. Minutes of Meeting 2/12/01

Jamie Beyer called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.


Jamie "King Koi" gave progress update on progress to date with organization and went over notes from last meeting. Jamie also wanted to change the title of the President's report from"King Koi's Kronicles" to "The Big Toad's Ponderings" if it's alright with everybody.


Short group discussion of meeting. Day and date, established second Monday of month at 7:00 P.M., locations to vary, and to be announced in preceding newsletter.


Jamie gave brief synopsis of organizing committee meeting on 1/30/01 with regard to finances, newsletter, goals, etc and introduced committee.


Discussion of 2001 Pond Tour and informational flyer that is being distributed to all interested ponderers.


Open discussion of joint state WGA membership with primary membership in local group, shared newsletter, etc - dependent on other group's approval.


CIWGA approval by voice vote to proceed


"Pondered" possibility of spring (and/or fall) plant, fish, etc. - membership only - exchange and accepted "volunteers" to implement plan (Kenn Outzen and Dean Koob)


Group welcomed featured speakers Chris Wendel and Jackie Allsup. They passed around sample "name tags" and commented on their group requirements that tags are worn to meetings or a fine is assessed. Showed sample tour sign and talked about tall "fish flags" for host homes to be kept by hosts of tour.


Jamie mentioned planned informational meeting being set up by Doug Reick in Des Moines in April - possibly get on local events calendars on noon news programs on Channel 5, 8, and 13.


Next meeting is set for March 12th - location TBA, program by Doug Metcalf of the Ark on "Fish Options for Ponds". April 9th meeting program will be Tom Kenney of Skycrest Gardens on "Potting, Dividing, and Repotting Water Lilies"


Meeting program by Chris, Jackie, and Jamie on "Over wintering your Pond and Fish" with several designs for keeping open water and aeration. Excellent discussion on plant types and winter care, pond cleaning, filtration, and new "arm extender" inventions. Emphasis placed on fish stress, pond "patina" and chemical and gas balances.
