Castor Oil to the Rescue

At our first meeting in November, Cheryl Saylor talked of using castor oil to repel moles from our gardens.Everybody was excited about using the stuff including Ada Mae Lewis who had a mole chew through the outlet tubing of her water pump to her pond's waterfall.Of course, this emptied her pond overnight and we had to act quickly. But what to do about the mole(s) that was still there.Cheryl had heard that castor oil spread on the ground works and a couple of other ponderers had heard the same thing. Our problem was solved -- we thought.I called Dr. Jim Pease, extension wildlife biologist at ISU, to ask the expert. He said that it does not work!!He also mentioned that the only sure way to solve the problems of moles is to trap them.Jim also mentioned that Juicy Fruit Gum and Sonic gizmos also do not work.So much for the easy way out.By the way, Jim said that the mole creates the most calls to his office by far and away.Ada Mae, you are not alone.

If you have a Pondment item, please send them to Lisa. They can be something that you have found works for you. These sorts of advice help us all.
